System Backing Up

System Backing Up

Professional backing up systems are used together with RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Discs) installed on discs on the same server, and are used with Disaster Recovery configuration on a separate server. Together with this, depending on the value of the data, Disaster Management Systems detailed under the other subject title are preferred. Another solution is the NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices produced for backing up purposes.

Besides, in some small and medium sized companies, backup is tried to be realized on standard external discs which can be obtained from technology shops. However, these types of devices are cheap solutions which are produced for individual use, and used for storing private files, figures, etc. data and which are prone to failure and which are prone to magnetic fields. These external discs shall not be used for important data like company data.

Software provides backing up by means of different methods. The most popular three methods are as follows:

1. Full Backup: In this method, all of the contents of the selected source are backed up. This is the most reliable method; however, it needs time and capacity. Before the other methods are applied, full backup shall be formed at least once.

2. Incremental Backup: In this type of backup, only the files (“Archive” attribute) detected not to be backed up as from the final backup are backed up. During recovery, firstly the full backup and afterwards, all of the incremental backups shall be recovered.

3. Differential Backup: In this type of backup, the files, detected not to be backed up as from the final full backup, are backed up. During recovery, firstly the full backup and afterwards, the final difference backup shall be recovered. Except the backup processes realized optionally, some backup software also has properties which will repeat a backup process, whose settings are saved, in desired intervals.
